Replying to a finding
Last updated .
What happens when I reply to a MergeSafe finding?
A reply that disputes a finding gets it judged again with your reasoning, and it is either withdrawn or downgraded to P3 so it no longer blocks; a reply that says it is fixed in a commit gets it re-checked at that commit.
Disputing a finding
- Reply in the finding’s thread and say why it is wrong. Anyone can dispute a finding.
- MergeSafe answers with one of two outcomes: “Agreed, withdrawn” with the reason, or “I still disagree” with the reason, downgraded to P3 so you can proceed.
- A disputed finding never keeps blocking the merge.
- The outcome holds for the rest of the pull request: if the same issue is found again on a later commit, it comes back at P3 at most.
- The score is recalculated straight away, with no charge.
- Up to 5 replies are answered per review; any others are answered on the next one.
Saying it is fixed
- Reply with a fix word and the commit, for example “fixed in abc1234” (a commit id of 7 to 40 characters).
- MergeSafe re-checks the finding at that commit and replies that the commit addressed it, partly addressed it (with what is still open), or did not address it.
- Open P0 and P1 findings are also re-checked automatically on every new review.
Turning a reply into a rule
- Ask in a reply to add or remove a rule (for example “make this a rule”), and MergeSafe records a standing rule for the repository and reacts with a thumbs-up.
- Rule changes are limited to people on the repository’s rule allowlist.
- Rules also come from your repository’s
AGENTS.mdand.cursor/rules/files. A finding based on one says so, for example “per AGENTS.md”.
