Talk to MergeSafe on your pull requests

Comment on a pull request to ask MergeSafe for something. Every command it understands is listed here; the list is generated from MergeSafe’s code, so it stays complete.

@mergesafe review

Reviews the pull request's latest commit, covering everything since the last reviewed commit. In Manual-only mode this is how a review starts. If that commit was already reviewed, MergeSafe replies once that there is nothing new, and nothing is charged.

Who can use it
Owners, members and collaborators of the repository, or the associations the repository trusts. When the repository reviews only selected authors, a selected person's request reviews any author's pull request.
Cost
One review at the repository's level.

@mergesafe review --force

Reviews a pull request MergeSafe refused as too large to review well. Post it after the refusal comment.

Who can use it
A repository admin.
Cost
One review at the repository's level.

@mergesafe review large

Reviews a pull request MergeSafe paused as too large to review within the normal budget, at 1.5 times the regular price for the repository's level. Reply to MergeSafe's comment on the pull request, which states the total.

Who can use it
Someone on the repository's review list (any trusted commenter when it has none), or a repository admin.
Cost
1.5 times one review at the repository's level, plus add-ons as usual.

@mergesafe cluster

On a pull request in a repository that belongs to a cluster, runs the cluster's cross-repository assessment of the open pull requests.

Who can use it
Anyone who can comment on the pull request (bots are ignored).
Cost
Free.

Reply to a finding

Replying to one of MergeSafe's inline findings to dispute it gets it re-judged against your reply; saying it is fixed in a commit ("fixed in abc1234") gets it re-checked at that commit. Asking to add or remove a rule in a reply records a rule for the repository.

Who can use it
Anyone can dispute a finding; rule changes need the repository's rule allowlist.
Cost
Free.

@mergesafe debt

Reply on a finding's thread to keep it as tech debt: real, but not for this pull request. MergeSafe keeps it on the organization's Tech debt page in the app, and it stops blocking the pull request. A reply that agrees but defers it ("Good catch, will fix in a follow-up PR") gets the same offer, which a "yes" accepts.

Who can use it
Owners, members and collaborators of the repository, or the associations the repository trusts.
Cost
Free.

@mergesafe dispute [finding title]

Disputes a finding listed only in the summary, which has no thread to reply on. Write the finding's title after the command and explain why it does not apply; it is re-judged against your comment and either withdrawn or downgraded so it no longer blocks.

Who can use it
Anyone who can comment on the pull request (bots are ignored).
Cost
Free.
